Please note: I will be sending the list of committee members to the new SGA blog one week
from today, Wednesday, March 19. If you have decided you cannot be on the committee or
don't want to be included on that list for some reason, please let me know by Monday,
March 17. Thanks!

Also, this committee usually has several College staff and/or faculty members on it.
Sarah Marusek, who will be teaching in Politics, has agreed to be a faculty
representative on the committee next year. She has a special interest in parking. We can
discuss other possible staff/faculty representatives at our next meeting.

2) PSAC past activities
Activities of this committee in the past have included conducting a survey of student
attitudes about Public Safety, a Lighting Walk during the Fall semester, and an Officer
and Staff Meet-and-Greet event during the Spring semester.

The results of the survey conducted last year are still with Rachel Coburn, who is on
leave. We will endeavor to retrieve these from her when possible!

Elizabeth will bring an update on the status of the last two years' Lighting Walk
requests to the next meeting.

3) Update on current issues
Elizabeth summarized the progress that has been made toward re-establishing a Ride Van,
which was strongly supported by this committee in the past. IN4M and Public Safety wrote
a proposal which was submitted in February 2008 to the College and to SGA. Both the
College and SGA are going through their budget process for next year and there is as yet
no news on where funding of the Ride Van stands. Elizabeth distributed copies of the
proposal to those interested.

4) Future activities
Possible future activities include the following:
-conducting M&Cs talkbacks about safety in the halls;
-having the Meet-and-Greet event every semester;
-making photos of officers and staff available online (on campus only) or in a location
accessible to students;
-creating a resource that would help students know who/what is the responsibility of
Public Safety and who/what is the responsibility of Facilities Management;
-developing a way to collect information about student opinions about campus lighting and
blue light phones in addition to the yearly Lighting Walk; and
-collecting and giving feedback about the new crosswalks on Rt 116.

5) Paul Ominsky, Director of Public Safety at Mt Holyoke, will attend our committee
meeting on May 7. He would like to attend an earlier meeting but has conflicts with our
regular Wednesday meeting time. However, if we moved to a different day of the week, he
could attend a meeting during lunch on Tuesday, April 15, or on Tuesday, April 22. We'll
discuss this at our next meeting.

Please send comments, suggestions, or feedback to me (Elizabeth) or the entire committee.
I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, March 23, at our usual time (12:15-1:15pm) and
place (Blanchard 318).
