Strength, Courage and Wisdom:Capturing the Entrepreneurial Spirit |
SAVE THE DATE!
Description of Conference
The Mount Holyoke Alumnae and Student of Color Conference [ASOCC] 2009 is a conference and forum for those who identify as women of color. This year’s theme, Strength, Courage and Wisdom: Capturing the Entrepreneurial Spirit, will offer a dynamic weekend of exploring our dreams and supporting one another in making a difference in our communities—and the world.
We want ASOCC 2009 to continue to reflect the diversity and complexity of our community/ies and identity/ies. This conference is a community building event, as well as a wonderful venue for leadership, networking, and learning opportunities through a variety of workshops.
Call for Proposals
Following our conference in 2007, when close to 100 alumnae and students made connections during two days of intensive workshops, panels, and speakers, we again invite community members to take part in this upcoming conference as both presenters and participants.
Proposal submissions of all kinds are welcome. We encourage proposals that speak to the theme of entrepreneurism from any and all angles: small businesses, corporate endeavors, community organizations dealing in art, health or the environment, Internet companies, not-for-profits and/or for-profits. ASOCC 2009 will continue the community dialogue begun at ASOCC 2007, and will also offer a particular segment of our community a way to connect intentionally and with a defined purpose.
We hope to draw participants from across disciplinary and social boundaries, and are soliciting contributions from anyone interested. Contributions may include (but are not limited to):
- Workshops
- Performances
- Research presentations
- Visual art
- Skill shares
- Video or film
- Activist and organizational topics

Statement of Purpose
We began this conference in 2007 out of a desire to see all alumnae and students of color explore and discuss our community/ies from a variety of perspectives. We wanted a conference that honored the complexities of who we are as its central focus, while building community and offering support. We feel we accomplished that in 2007, and now, in 2009, we want to continue to build community and bridges, supporting each other across borders and differences, and discovering our similarities.
