Lyon Lecture Series 2006: Holyoke, MA
The first of the spring 2006 Lyon Lecture Series was held on Thursday, March 30, 2006, at the Delaney House in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The lecture topic was “Community Outside the Gates” with Preston H. Smith II, associate professor of politics and director of the Community-Based Learning Program at the Weissman Center for Leadership and the Liberal Arts, and student guest panelist Yaminette Diaz ’06.
The Community-Based Learning Program (CBL) is an educational initiative that links Mount Holyoke College students with local communities in courses that combine analysis and action. Professor Smith discussed the multiple ways in which students learn and apply ideas, concepts, and policies within local communities.
