Double Postcard Information For Class Scribes
Class scribes, especially those newly elected, find it convenient, effective and economical to solicit news for their class notes columns in the Alumnae Quarterly by arranging for a “double postcard” mailing. Here’s how…
What in the world is a double postcard?
It’s two attached postcards, both of which are pre-stamped. One postcard carries a classmate’s address on one side and a message from the scribe (“What’s up with you? Send your news to the Quarterly!” or some such thing) on the other. When a classmate receives the double postcard, she detaches the cards at the perforation and uses the second card to respond to the scribe’s plea for news. The second postcard has space for the classmate’s news on one side and the scribe’s address printed on the other.
If you decide to do such a mailing, please decide:
• Do you want to mail postcards to the entire class at once, or to a portion of it (usually one-quarter) at a time? (If you mail to a portion of the class, the Quarterly keeps track of how many were sent, and to whom.)
• What message should go on the card to encourage classmates to reply. (Some scribes send seasonal messages—“Send me your holiday letters” or “Tell me how you spent your vacation”—others prefer a general call for news: “Your classmates want to know what you’ve been up to lately. Please send me your news…”)
Allow enough time to meet the Quarterly deadline:
• At least two weeks are required to process the double postcard request and have the cards mailed. Also, class members need time to fill out and mail in their cards, and the scribe needs time to prepare and mail her class notes column to the Quarterly.
• You may request double postcards by email, phone, fax, or mail. Address requests to:

What about cost?
Each double postcard costs 50¢ (25¢ x 2 cards, including postage)
Other fees include:
• printing fees of approximately $24 to print your message on the blank cards
• additional postage for postcards sent via airmail to non-US addresses (approx. 80¢ each)
The bill will be sent to your class treasurer. (There is no charge for classes who graduated more than 60 years ago.)
