› Alumnae Council
Alumnae Council, organized in 1914, is the primary means of training alumnae volunteer leaders and is held annually on the College campus. The objective of Council is to promote and maintain effective communication among the alumnae leadership of clubs/groups, classes, other networks, and the Alumnae Association. Council provides a forum for discussion of Association policies and projects, and the opportunity for alumnae to exchange ideas among themselves. In addition, College administrators update participants on College initiatives. Training workshops on programming, leadership, publicity, and resource development are held over the course of the weekend.
Selected alumnae are invited back to campus for an educational and enjoyable weekend. The president of each club will determine which members of their board should attend the training conference. Each club is allotted 1-2 spaces, and overall our attendance is on a first come, first served basis. The Alumnae Association incurs all costs.
Currently newly elected and re-elected class presidents, vice presidents, and treasurers are invited to Council (head class agents are trained seperately by the Development Office). Alumnae Council brings alumnae in close contact with each other and fosters deeper connections between the alumnae, the Association, and the College.
Attendees are expected to attend all Council session and workshops to which they are assigned. They should also report on Council to their class via meetings, letters, phone calls, etc.
Committee members facilitate training and discussion sessions. Students are usually invited to dine with the alumnae, and when possible, the president and senior faculty and administrators address the delegates. Participants generally find that they come away from Council reinvigorated, with lots of new ideas to bring back to their clubs, as well as a wealth of information about what’s happening on campus.
Reimbursement of Expenses for Alumnae Council
The Alumnae Association reimburses the expenses of attendees in accordance with the formula recommended by the Association Finance Committee. Clubs/classes may use their treasuries to assist attendees with expenses not covered by the Association. Some attendees choose not to seek reimbursement, but instead donate the reimbursable amount to the Alumnae Annual Fund or the Association’s Founder’s Fund.
› Reunion Planning Workshop
Reunion Planning Workshop is held approximately 20 months prior to a class’s reunion and is open to the class president and reunion chair or co-chairs from that class. These key individuals are exposed to the timetables and critical tasks/steps needed to make reunion successful. They also start the planning process for the event.
