Welcome

Welcome to the Club of Central Maine!
CONCERNS FOR THE CLUB
Last year, we announced many vacant club positions (committees, officers). There were no serious responses. The number of members that pay dues as well as the number who attend events has continued to drop for the last few years. If this trend continues, we will not be able to have a luncheon/business meeting, nor will we be able to sponsor any events for the Maine students, and eventually this club (the only formal club left in Maine) will fold. The executive committee had suggested that we no longer have 2 events during the summer due primarily to the poor attendance. This was tabled until next year, with the hope that the following action steps will reverse the trend.
ACCURATE CONTACTS & INCREASING MEMBERS:
We need to generate an accurate mailing, e-mailing, and phone list for Maine alums – there are many who don’t seem to appear on the ‘official’ list sent from the college. PLEASE HELP US FIND NEW MEMBERS: If you are in contact with any Maine MHC women - current students or alums, part-time or full-time residents – PLEASE check to see if they received this mailing. This letter was sent to those who are on our ‘official’ list from the college. If they did not receive it and have any interest in this club PLEASE ask them to send us some contact information.
In addition to more networking and contacts with Maine alums, we need more active members. There is need for help with events, host M & C’s, to serve on committees, serve as an officer, or provide informal ‘extra set of hands’ kind of help. Some women were not able to attend the luncheon but have offered to become more active THANK YOU – but we need more – PLEASE consider making some time for the club and filling one of our vacancies. There are positions to fit anyone’s time ‘budget’, so make some inquiries!
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY…
The other concern for the club is our financial status – we have just enough money coming in from dues to cover our mailing in the spring and have the Send-Off for Maine Students in August. Dues payments as well as contributions to the Book Awards and Scholarship Fund have dropped dramatically over the last few years. Although leftover book award money adds to the ‘kitty’ when needed, we still are not able to accumulate any ‘extra’ money for the scholarship fund nor afford to have a formal speaker attend our luncheon.
In the past, alums who have businesses have contributed a percentage of the proceeds from their uniquely Maine product (wreaths, for example) to the club. At this time, we have no such sponsor. If you know someone who may fit into this category, please send their contact information to Rachel. If you have any fund-raising ideas (that do not include personally selling items) let one of your officers know. Rachel will also gratefully accept late dues and additional contributions.
